Dear reader

Arlene Foster resigned as Northern Ireland's first minister on Monday with a vow to pursue fresh challenges and to deliver better protections for people on social media.

Mrs Foster received tributes from across the political spectrum in the Assembly chamber, with Ulster Unionist leader Doug Beattie saying she had carried herself with the "utmost dignity".

Naomi Long, the Alliance Party leader and justice minister, pointed out that Mrs Foster was the first unionist politician to contact her over the death threats she had received.

In her personal statement, Mrs Foster said young people should be free from bullying on social media.

The first minister later stared straight ahead with her arms folded as her successor as DUP leader, Edwin Poots, paid tribute to her, and said "history would be kind" to Mrs Foster.
