The prospect of a resolution to the impasse Northern Ireland Protocol appears to have faded fast after EU-UK talks in London on Thursday ended without agreement.
With the EU appearing to threaten a trade war over the issue, Lord Frost, the UK's Brexit Minister, didn't mince his words either, accusing the EU of adopting an "extremely purist" approach to the implementation of the protocol.
Unionist leaders continue to call for the protocol's abolition, with DUP leader Edwin Poots saying it has been a "disaster both economically and politically".
