Dear reader

The Public Health Agency has provided an update on the situation in Kilkeel after a weekend when more than 1,000 Covid-19 tests were carried out in the area.

Just 15 new positive Covid-19 cases were confirmed, the PHA revealed on Monday afternoon.

The PHA said that all of those who tested positive have been told to self-isolate while there is an additional Mobile Testing Unit at Kilkeel High School to test all pupils and staff as a precautionary measure.

The PHA said those positive tests will now be "assessed for a preliminary indication of whether a variant is present or not and then submitted for whole genome sequencing to confirm the type of variant."

The crisis in the DUP has continued with one of three councillors who have quit the party telling Stephen Nolan he had tears in his eyes as he decided to resign.

Meanwhile, the new Northern Ireland envoy to America, Trevor Ringland, told the News Letter he will use the role to challenge narratives about the Province being an "occupied state".
