Good evening

The weather was as hot on Monday as it was on Sunday: stunning weather for May but we report on fears about a possible drought if it does not rain soon.

NI Water has asked people to use water wisely to help prevent shortages at a later date.

For people who made it to parks and outside spaces on Monday, the conditions were as fine as can be. But in the hot weather there have been fires, from the gorse fire on the outskirts of east Belfast to one at Flagstaff outside Newry.

A further fire at the historic Crumlin Road courthouse in north Belfast is believed to have been started deliberately.

Also on Monday, it emerged that people shielding in Northern Ireland will be allowed out from June 8 and hotels will open from July 20.

Arlene Foster paid tribute to the police reserve on their 50th anniversary.

Meanwhile, we report on how the DUP's most powerful backroom figure was overseeing party political activities while being paid £92,000 a year by taxpayers.

Also in Tuesday's paper, two legal legal figures in the UK have strongly criticised the Supreme Court decision to overturn the convictions of Gerry Adams.

The paper, which is summarised in the News Letter, by Professor Richard Ekins of Oxford University and Sir Stephen Laws has been endorsed by the former UK head of the civil service, Lord Butler, as posing "a very serious challenge to the ordinary functioning of government".
