Good afternoon everyone

At the end of another working week, it was encouraging to learn that we are continuing on the downward trend of coronavirus-related deaths in Northern Ireland.

Statistics published on Friday by the Northern Ireland Statistics and Research Agency (NISRA) reported 36 new deaths in relation to Covid-19 between May 23 and May 29.

This number continues the fall that we have seen across the Province in recent weeks, with the number of new infections also falling along with the R-rate.

However, we can't afford to be complacent and that's why there has been concern about the huge crowds seen in Belfast city centre on Wednesday at the Black Lives Matter protest.

While no one will doubt that the message at the protest was the right one, there has been  concern that such events could lead to a new spike in coronavirus cases here.

The PSNI has now warned against a repeat this weekend, telling potential protestors that they are risking their lives and others by taking part in another mass gathering.

Enjoy your weekend and stay safe
