The forecast was so good for this week that I took Wednesday and Thursday off work. The former was extraordinarily warm for April, the latter disappointingly grey, but even so I was reminded of what an agreeable place Northern Ireland is to live. I am very proud of my sister, who ran her first marathon in London last weekend! Here are the road closures for tomorrow's Belfast marathon which we will of course be covering at the News Letter. And this story mentions some of the events in Northern Ireland next week to mark VE Day. Here is Roamer on childhood memories of war as the anniversary approaches. Gavin Robinson, the DUP leader, writes here to deny claims that his party has not done enough to stop Irish signs at Grand Central Station. The SDLP leader Colum Eastwood has hit out at 'mass hysteria' around Kneecap but you don't hear much about the violent act implicit in the name. Here is a story about victim of kneecapping. And here is another party leader, Doug Beattie, saying blame for Kingsmill rests squarely with the IRA. In other politics, my column is on Reform UK's election victory. And we say that while if the court order for a public inquiry into the appalling murder of Sean Brown stands, then the legacy crisis will deepen. Enjoy your weekend, it is sunny as I write this! And your reading, Ben |
