Dear reader

Today is another significant day in the battle with coronavirus in Northern Ireland as we continue on the right path out of lockdown.

All school pupils in Northern Ireland returned to the classroom after the Easter break, with pupils in years eight to 11 back, incredibly, for the first time since before Christmas.

Education Minister Peter Weir hailed it as a "very positive day for young people".

Other relaxations here saw the reopening of garden centres and car washes, while restrictions on outdoor sport were eased further. However, we remain behind the rest of the UK and hopefully Thursday''s next Executive meeting brings more hope to the retail and hospitality sectors.

In another sign that the fight with Covid-19 is going in the right direction, the Nightingale facility at Belfast City Hospital has been de-escalated in what the Belfast Health Trust has described as a "significant milestone" in the fight against Covid-19.

Patients with the virus will now be treated at the Mater Hospital, as they were before the surge in cases last autumn.

Northern Ireland recorded no new deaths from Covid-19 in the last 24 hours while there have been another 97 new cases of the virus diagnosed.

With Northern Ireland having passed one million vaccinations over the weekend, Health Minister Robin Swann thanked the vaccine teams who have played such a key role in the success story here.
