It has rained a lot this morning, which is apt after such a miserable week, with more disorder last night. Carla Lockhart MP, whose constituency covers Portadown, says that the violence undermines legitimate concerns about mass immigration. I make a similar point in my own column, about the unpardonable nature of the attacks, which helps those who responsible for losing control of our borders all the more dismissive about a situation that they created, but do not live amongst. Here we report on the Home Office investigating a cross-border immigration smuggling operation. This week I attended a service of thanksgiving for that fine civil servant Sir Ken Bloomfield, who was back at his desk within two hours of an IRA attack on his home. Talking of terrorism, our interview this week is with an actor Ruairi Conaghan on his play about the murder of his uncle, a judge. Meanwhile, the DUP has been scathing about Hilary Benn's handling of Troubles legacy matters. In happier news, here is the full local honours list, which includes Michael Dunlop. Enjoy your weekend and your reading, Ben |
