Ben Lowry - Saturday reading

Approaching July

Only yesterday did the evenings begin to get shorter - while June 21 is the longest day, the latest sunsets (of after 10pm) lasted until Thursday. We are due to miss the heatwave in southern England tomorrow and Monday but it will be warmer than normal here

We report today on how the Equality Commission has thrown into doubt whether or not the UK Supreme Court ruling on trans applies to Northern Ireland. Meanwhile, another court ruling - on the A5 in the west of the province - has put in doubt future road schemes.

It is still not clear whether the BBC will broadcast this afternoon's Glastonbury performance by Kneecap, who use the vile balaclava imagery of republican terror. We will report on that later.

This week I was at the launch of a book by the excellent Dr Cillian McGrattan and victim of the IRA Ken Funston. That ceaseless critic of terrorists Dr Liam Kennedy spoke powerfully at the event.

My columns are on oil prices and the appalling lack of interest in Northern Ireland about the jailing of a young man in Hong Kong who warned Stormont about China - yet our politicians keep meeting Chinese officials.

Enjoy your weekend and your reading,

Ben
