Last week as we neared the shortest evenings, I commented on how the weather was suitably dark and grey. Tomorrow the evenings begin to get slightly longer, and yesterday was appropriately sunny and happy in Belfast!

But traders in the city were not so happy, with all public transport cancelled due to a strike.  A strike that none of our politicians challenged, raising doubts once again about Stormont's ability to handle difficult situations

The DUP is staying tight-lipped about the meeting of its key party officers yesterday amid rumours of an imminent return to Stormont.  I think that a divide within the party about the importance of getting rid of EU law has finally come to the fore

This week the writer Roderick Crawford of the influential Westminster think tank Policy Exchange wrote an article for us urging unionists not to overstate the scope of such EU law here. But today Lord Frost, who helped deliver Brexit, says it is much more serious than that

And there is pressure here on Sir Jeffrey Donaldson to stand firm against EU law, in a letter from Baroness Hoey and others

The picture of a smiling Katya Watson, 22, from Coleraine illustrates the utter horror of road deaths, which are up on this time last year. My thoughts above all are with her twin sister Lucia

Tributes were paid to the Irish and British Lions rugby legend Syd Millar at his funeral this week

The cheerful managing director of Hastings Hotels, James McGinn, has been recognised as one of the top 25 hoteliers in Britain

And here is Paula McIntyre on what she is cooking for Christmas
