Good evening,

There was good news today for Northern Ireland's army of carers with the announcement that the coronavirus vaccination programme has now been extended.

The roll-out was first extended on Wednesday to include some carers, then again on Thursday to include all carers over the age of 50 and today it has been extended again to include all carers of 18 and over.

Meanwhile, a study has found that the Pfizer / BioNTech vaccine is 85 per cent effective in preventing people from developing symptoms of the virus after the first dose.

The findings, published in the medical journal, The Lancet, appear to support the decision to delay the second dose of the vaccine, as a high level protection is gained from just one shot.

The news comes as five new Covid-related deaths have been recorded in Northern Ireland, and 313 new infections.

Enjoy your weekend safely,

Valerie Martin,
