Chief Constable Simon Byrne has said "Widespread violence and disorder" would have followed any attempt to disperse large crowds attending the funeral of IRA veteran Bobby Storey. He has defended the PSNI handling of the funeral in June.

Unionists were last night left alarmed and scrambling for answers  about the future status of Northern Ireland after the government dropped legislation intended to mitigate against an Irish Sea border. There was deep concern that the government dropped clauses from the Internal Markets Bill, which had reassured Northern Ireland of certain limits to the coming Irish Sea border.
