I was in London and returned to rain on Wednesday. While Maundy Thursday was beautiful in Belfast, the rest of Easter is due to be damp or grey. Oh well, we had to do fresh penance for that glorious, perfect spell in early April. This weekend, Canon Ian Ellis writes about this point in the Christian calendar, as does the distinguished religion journalist Alf McCreary in an Easter essay here. Our political editor, David Thompson, made a podcast for the BBC with Stephen Nolan some years ago that began the fightback against the influence of Stonewall in gender public policy in the UK. But, he writes here, no pushback in Northern Ireland. Here are some of my own thoughts on the woke extremism on trans that led to the Supreme Court ruling. Rory McIlroy is back home in Northern Ireland! I get a kick out of having been to the same school as Rory, but he was not even born when we then pupils enjoyed another stunning sporting drama involving an NI sportsman ... Jeff Johnston writes here how Rory is our best ever sports star, edging out even George Best. Mike Nesbitt has slammed Hilary Benn for his "imbalanced" warm comments on the Irish language. The Ulster Unionist leader is also scathing about the NI secretary's praise for the late Rev Ian Paisley over the Belfast Agreement. I wish you a happy Easter, and hope you enjoy your reading too, Ben |
