Another cloudless day over Northern Ireland, as I write this at lunchtime. On Wednesday it was even better, not a single cloud over the British Isles when the sun was at its highest point, which is very unusual. And it was cloudless as the luxury new Dunluce Lodge was formally launched with a reception against a perfect sunset over Portrush on Thursday evening. This week is set to be almost as good. The Fermanagh lakes must also be wonderful just now. Helen McGurk talks to a man who has become a monk and lives on Hare Krishna island on Lough Erne. In political matters, an MLA has said she did not intend to cause offence when she accused unionists of having a "coloniser mindset" The Free Speech Union is holding a public panel discussion in Belfast on Friday. I am on the FSU advisory council, as is Ruth Dudley Edwards. I was going to write about Irish in my main column this week but yet another controversial court ruling has caused me to return to legacy. Finally, on Tuesday we wrote about a plan to woo Donald Trump with the gift of Rathlin Island but things change fast in these turbulent times and that was only the story then ... on that notable date, April 1st. Enjoy your weekend, and your reading, Ben |
