From Tuesday to Friday I was working from Belfast city centre and it was sunny each day, as it was this morning and indeed yesterday morning when was in the city to meet an American friend for breakfast.

Northern Ireland was the warmest place in the UK on Thursday and Friday, albeit reaching only 11 Celsius, then again yesterday with 13C at Killowen. It was sunnier Thursday and Frida than anywhere in England! Around eight hours of sunshine at a time of year when we only get somewhat more than 11 hours of daylight.

The weather is not always so fine around the St Patrick's Day festivities but I do associate the time of year with seasonal brightness, and optimism.

In America, in the absence Sinn Fein, Emma Little-Pengelly says that Northern Ireland being part of Nato helped her to sell the province to the US. I write here that the republican boycott left an opening for unionists in Washington DC.

Meanwhile, farmers are said to be under siege over land taken for the A5 road.

This is Dean Godson's magnificent 3,000 word tribute to the late Blair Wallace, ex RUC deputy chief constable.

And this is Alf McCreary's review of a book by the longstanding religion correspondent Patsy McGarry, entitled 'Well, Holy God, My Life as an Irish, Catholic, Agnostic Correspondent,' which Alf describes as a moving account of the abuse scandals.

In other news, the trial of Sir Jeffrey Donaldson, which was due to commence eight days from now, has been delayed due to his wife being unfit to stand trial on related charges.

In biking, here is Kyle White on Michael Lavery confirming the NW200 and Isle of Man TT.

Enjoy the rest of your spring weekend, St Patrick's Day tomorrow and your reading,

Ben
