Good afternoon

There was great news on the sporting and tourism fronts this morning when it was announced that Royal Portrush has been confirmed as the venue for The Open in 2025. The spectacular course will host the major just six years after the hugely successful championship which was won by Shane Lowry in 2019. Almost 240,000 spectators packed the venue over the four days on that occasion.

In politics the DUP has launched a broadside at the Tory government after it broke a promise to protect citizens' pension pots – saying it is further proof the PM's pledges are "worthless". Lord Dodds made the comments after Boris Johnson told the House of Commons that the long-standing "triple lock" on pensions was being done away with.

Firmus Energy has said it will increase its natural gas prices across much of Northern Ireland by 35.15% from October. The company said it was sorry to make the announcement, which it blamed on substantial rises in global wholesale gas prices.

We hope you are all able to enjoy a little bit of today's sunshine. Unfortunately it looks like thunder storms could be on the way for tomorrow.

Have a good afternoon
