Two famous Belfast anniversaries

Greetings on another pleasant spring day,

I have written about both the Titanic anniversary and also the worst Belfast blitz night for 25 years, but for some reason only just realised that they shared the same date - April 15. Two disasters for Ulster, 29 years apart to the day.

This story about a 90-year-old Belfast man who recalls the blitz reminds me that my own dad, who died four years ago aged 91, was 10 and remembered the raids well. And this story is about a man whose grandfather almost sailed on the Titanic.

The police is defending itself against being too heavy-handed over the fuel protests. I write about how the oil price spike is now notably worse than the increase even after the Russian invasion. My main column is on Keir Starmer being the latest PM to be almost broken by the office.

I have been struck about how nuclear power is barely even debated in Northern Ireland, despite being carbon free, such is the opposition. Here an MP is challenging that failure.

A Northern Ireland pastor is due in court over anti abortion protests while the US government is monitoring such cases.

This event in Clandeboye estate in June will include speakers such as Prue Leith and AN Wilson, marking the 200th birthday of the first Marquess of Dufferin.

Enjoy your weekend and your reading,

Ben
