Ben Lowry - Saturday reading

Noise pollution in Belfast

The weather has been almost perfect - sunny with clear birdsong and foliage filling out. But I write about a lunch break in Belfast being ruined by noise from buskers

The excellent Prof Liam Kennedy writes from a political event in Barcelona attended by the SDLP and others, where the global left think their moment is coming.

As the paper went to press we learned of the death of the remarkable Jim McDowell. He was at the News Letter when younger - one of the journalistic greats from our long history. My deepest condolences to my former Belfast Telegraph colleague Lindy and their family.

This car park protest in Bangor reminded me of getting my hair cut nearby on a recent Saturday and I could not get parked. They are removing the huge seafront car park (which I say should not have been built in such a scenic spot) but now parking is grim.

Enjoy your weekend and your reading,

Ben
