| Just after I was writing yesterday about some of the glorious winter sunshine we have had, it rained heavily last night. Early this morning I took this video of vehicles in trying to decide whether or not to drive through a heavily flooded road. On Tuesday I was at an event to commemorate the News Letter writer, and 'Roamer' compiler, Charlie Warmington, in his home town in Enniskillen. There is a report of that event with pictures in the weekend print edition, which is in the shops until tomorrow evening. It will be put online with video over the weekend. Jon Burrows is next leader of the Ulster Unionist Party, after Robbie Butler, the deputy leader, decided not to run. While it is a pity there will be no contest I write here that Mr Burrows cannot be faulted for that. Talking of the UUP, one of its councillors and former MLAs Philip Smith has carried out research that finds that unionists are "crying out" for realignment. And another ex UUP MLA, Dermot Nesbitt has again pointed out that for all the perpetual demands for respect for international law, it wasn't respected vis a vis Northern Ireland. Amidst years of gushing about Jon Boutcher's role in the Kenova report, the barrister Austen Morgan thinks that he should in fact have been sacked as PSNI chief constable over it. Enjoy your Saturday and your reading, Ben |
