After the floods

In a grim week, football games are off due to flooding today and overall emergency services dealt with 1,000 incidents. Even so, in sunny spells I had a sense of spring, which the ancient Irish believed starts tomorrow.

Jon Burrows has been ratified as Ulster Unionist Party leader today. We will have more coverage online and in Monday's print paper.

This letter by the distinguished economists Dr Graham Gudgin and Dr Esmond Birnie queries whether a Sinn Fein minister has presented Northern Ireland economic data in a way that seeks to bolster the Windsor Framework, and thus the Irish Sea border.

Talking of the economy, I think Belfast city centre has roared back to life in recent months, after being dead for years after lockdown.

In other news, Alex Burghart, Tory NI spokesman, wrote for us saying they might scrap Labour's legacy plan to protect veterans.

And two veterinary surgeons have revived an old friendship after seeing a retro 1980s photograph of them in the News Letter.

Enjoy your weekend and your reading,

Ben
