So it is a chilly start to the weekend and now we are into the darkest phase of the year, what I consider the gloomiest quarter

Here are some atmospheric September pics from the ploughing championship in Co Laois

With the onset of winter is it a good time to buy oil? As I write here it still almost is, yet - sickeningly, having not bought in the summer - it is 40% up on a few weeks ago

My link above about autumn has a pic of the shipyards, some of which will be obscured by new flats near the Titanic Centre

The Malone House Group, which has challenged the imbalance in Troubles investigations, has been cited in Europe. This week a member of the group, the barrister Austen Morgan wrote for us about the idea of Ireland suing the UK on legacy

Here is my own column on the idea of an amnesty in NI, something that I think was implied in 1998.  And talking legacy it is 40 years since the Maze escape

Lords Godson and Bew wrote for us this week on why Stormont should return under the Windsor Framework. Sammy Wilson has a different take

On policing, here is a devastating essay by the ex PSNI officer Jon Burrows on the pandering to Sinn Fein.  and here is Sir Jeffrey Donaldson saying such influence must end
