September is typically the start of a new work or school year, and the weather changes - as it has done here, damp and chilly (although a friend in London spent yesterday in warm sunshine).

For the News Letter this is the month that we notch up yet another year towards 300, and today we celebrate our 286th birthday

The chances of a return of Stormont seem to have receded. Here is my analysis of whether it is likely before the end of the year

The tragic death of Rachael Lowry, 17, reminds us all of the importance of seat belts, something about which I have reported over the decades and how seat belt laws have cut road fatalities.

I see that GB News is now covering this story that we broke weeks ago, of the injustice of an ex RUC man being investigated for years for his shooting of an IRA terrorist commander, after whose death murders in the area went down

When it comes to the injustice of endless investigations of the security forces and few into terrorists, the human rights activist Jeff Dudgeon has been a vital voice. Here he is on the legacy bill that just became law

Talking of paramilitaries, I always recall reading the NI prime minister Brian Faulkner in a memoir say that he found it hard to believe there was a risk to his life from gunmen when he looked out of his Co Down home into the beautiful surrounding countryside. That home is for sale at £1.5m

In opinion, Dr Esmond Birnie challenges the idea that NI is outgrowing the UK average while Ruth Dudley Edwards hails the 'outstanding' Stephen Nolan

And here is Helen McGurk's interview with the popular John Bennett

We are now in a critical phase for the return of Stormont, and there is little sign of it happening.

'It's a shocking reflection on NI's politicians that so few of them defend him against the enemies of free speech'

At the weekend I watched with fascination every episode of Stephen Nolan's "Jailed: Inside Maghaberry Prison".
