Henry McDonald will be buried on Tuesday, the last day of meteorological winter.

Our political editor, who was 57 when he died, was with us only a year but we loved him from the first day

I will write a tribute to Henry in the coming days. His career was so large that it is hard to know where to begin when selecting a sample of his writing but here is a piece that he wrote for us months ago, on the death of David Trimble, whose biographer Henry was 
 
The shooting of Detective Chief Inspector Caldwell was atrocious. The head of Omagh County Primary School of which he is a governor explains what a big role he has played in the school
 
The unanimous denunciation of the attack is welcome but 1990s terrorism was overwhelmingly condemned then but is now widely supported, so I think we must be clear it was wrong then too
 
A Protocol deal seemed perhaps to be off. Then it seemed to be on yesterday. Now for some reason Ursula Von Der Leyen is not coming to the UK
 
Oil prices are down again to their lowest level since the Russian invasion. Let's hope that anniversary does not send them up again
 
The support for Ukraine has shown that the western world is not as weak as perhaps it seemed
 
Finally some thoughts on Lent, which in latter years I have come to observe
