Dear reader,

Controversy is raging over claims that Northern Ireland's strict coronavirus regulations were broken during the funeral of a former IRA man in Londonderry on Monday.

Images emerged last night of the funeral procession of Eamon McCourt, a 62-year-old republican who reportedly died after contracting Covid-19.  The PSNI has said it is investigation 'likely' breaches of the regulations.

DUP representatives Gregory Campbell and Gary Middleton were among those who publicly criticised the scenes in Londonderry, while on Tuesday, the city's MP, Colum Eastwood of the SDLP, accused those who allegedly breached the regulations of letting the community down.

The latest coronavirus statistics released by the Department of the Health have revealed that another 16 people who tested positive for the virus have passed away

Eleven of those who died were aged over 80, while the other five were aged between 60 and 79.

The department also revealed that during the last 24 hours, 550 people in Northern Ireland tested positive for the virus.
