The Indian cricket team is in Northern Ireland, and I hope to be meeting them later, If they arrived on Thursday, before their first match, they were here in 30 degrees Celsius - almost subcontinent heat.

That evening, after the US consul 250th celebration (Ulster had the second ever US consulate, established in the 1790s), I noticed it was an astonishing 28 Celsius at 8pm - later, overnight highs were at record levels, as I write here.

David Thompson in this analysis writes that setting aside alleged hidden state pressure on Jeffrey Donaldson to return Stormont, the DUP was up for it while knowing nothing of his abuse. He also writes about Jon Burrows' opposition to raising the age of criminal responsibility.

My essay is on being in court when Donaldson was interrogated, then convicted, and how Donaldson was part of the secularising of the DUP yet he used deeply religious language - language the prosecutor turned against him in the trial. Ruth Dudley Edwards writes about how long before Donaldson's trial she disliked him.

Two important oped essays - a 2,400 article by Jeffrey Dudgeon on how criticism of immigration is shut down in NI, eg by the BBC. And Austen Morgan on how the UK supreme court has slapped down the Belfast courts on unbalanced legacy probes.

Enjoy your reading and this last weekend of the fabulous month of June,

Ben
