| It has been so sunny in greater Belfast and beyond this weekend that I ate breakfast outside this morning. It can still be chilly, but my advice on home heating oil prices - about which I have written since the Ukraine war - is that if you have enough oil to get you to summer then put on pullovers, use as little as possible and hope prices dip from current shocking levels (as they did in 2022). Last Sunday I reported on Iranian expats dancing in Belfast at the fall of the ayatollah, a celebration that got less publicity than the Stop Bombing Iran protest the next day. When Lord Kilclooney (John Taylor) said most people in NI will back an all Ireland, the economist Esmond Birnie called this a "dangerous myth". Now Lord Kilclooney has written to us in reply. The book about Charlie Warmington's family and their experience of Nazi Austria has been launched. And a plaque has been unveiled in Crawfordsburn to the radical landowner William Sharman Crawford. The huge book collection of a much loved former teacher of mine was put on sale for charity yesterday. We will have a further report on it tomorrow. Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Ben |
