| | At the end of July I wrote about how I had enjoyed another summer month in Northern Ireland, despite it being the wettest ever
Last night it was wet again, very wet and as I left Belfast city centre it was dark, chilly, soaking and worst of all, autumnal and I had that sad sense the summer was over.
There is a scene in the film about the IRA murder of Thomas Niedermayer in which his widow, Ingeborg, like him from Germany, talks about how she found the wet weather here challenging, and then the sun would come out. They loved Northern Ireland, which is why they stayed during the Troubles. On Thursday I watched the stunning film - here is my review.
Mr Niedermayer's granddaughter says that they have been touched by the support after the documentary
Rev David Clements' RUC dad was killed by a terror gang that was itself later killed at Loughall. I am always struck by the restraint with which he writes, such as here about the pain of 'Ooh ah up the rah' chants. We have asked West Belfast funders about that annual IRA chorus at the generously supported festival at a time of financial restraint but they just sidestep our queries
There is ongoing alarm about the PSNI data breach
Meanwhile at Stormont, talks are happening. Here the Ulster Unionist leader says unionists must return, here the TUV leader Jim Allister puts a very different emphasis on events
And here is a story about a Bank of Ireland ATM glitch that led to queues on one side of the border, but not the other | |
