I write this on a bright, but not entirely sunny, November morning.

Good news as temperatures drop: Oil prices are down, leading to cheaper home heating oil but also car fuel offers

We are on the brink of advent, during which this James Nesbitt/Timothy Spall film about a Christmas heist seems set to be a hit

For all the seasonal cheer, our divisions over Middle East are as great as ever, as this shocking incident in Derry City and Strabane District Council in which Irish republicans hung up a banner comparing the Jewish state to the Nazi mass murderers of Jews

And there is sharp division over Stormont. Here are two opposing voices: Bob McCartney KC who wrote for us saying that a return is part of the jigsaw towards an all Ireland  and the Ulster Unionist Philip Smith arguing almost the opposite, that devolution bolsters the Union and Northern Ireland's success

Here is my analysis of a now undeniable division in the DUP, which revolves around the primacy of EU law in NI

This is a tribute to the lawyer and left-leaning activist Brian Garrett by Professor Liam Kennedy, who describes him as part of a lost generation that might had reshaped Northern Ireland, if not for gunmen. I engaged with Brian a lot in his energetic work on libel reform, a role which Mike Nesbitt remembers here

We will be carrying more tributes to Brian, whom we all remember very fondly, from Erskine Holmes and others
