We are now in the peak of the year in Northern Ireland. Fine weather, and super long days that will get longer for the next four weeks.

The forecast this bank holiday weekend is sunny too.

The king and queen were in NI. It was very good to see Detective Chief Inspector John Caldwell meet them. I had feared his injuries after the terrorist attack were such that he might not have been able to attend such a meeting, yet there he was

In other seasonal reportage, here is Kyle White on the imminent Isle of Man TT

Meet the Portadown man who is bringing Tayto crisps, Jammie Dodgers and Nutty Krust to the American Midwest

In politics, our editorial warned against unionism seeming to be chasing money again

I wrote that the SDLP and Ulster Unionists are far from finished in the aftermath of the election - unless of course they want to be

Here is my reflection on why there is no denying that the results were bad for unionists

And I am sad to hear that the Irish News is leaving Belfast's Fleet Street, Donegall St. I worked in Fleet St (well, almost) and the NI newspaper road, including a short spell at the Irish News. I am very proud to have worked for all three NI dailies

Finally, here is a row about literature. How extraordinary to think that such a giant of American writing, Steinbeck, might be banned or censored from schools. I am glad such censorship did not prevail when I studied A Level politics
